Privacy policy
What happens to your data when you use LifeAbroadGuide. In short, very little - no cookies, no ads and no tracking profiles.

What this site collects
This site has no user accounts, no comments and no advertising, and it does not set cookies. Fonts are served from our own domain, so your browser does not contact Google Fonts.
If you choose a profile (Student, Professional or Family) on the home page, your browser remembers it in its local storage so the site can show matching guides. It never leaves your device, and you can clear it in your browser settings.
Visitor statistics
We count visits with Umami, a privacy-friendly analytics service. It does not use cookies, does not store IP addresses and does not build profiles of individual visitors. We see only totals, such as how often a guide was read and which tools were used. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in improving the guides (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
Tools
The move planner, visa checker and blocked account calculator run entirely in your browser. What you enter is not sent to us. The move planner remembers your ticked steps, and the blocked account calculator your currency, in your browser's local storage, which you can clear at any time. The calculator's exchange rates come from the European Central Bank: our server fetches them once a day, so your browser does not contact anyone else.
Reports about guides
If you report something out of date, we receive your message and, if you give it, your email address, through Brevo's email service. We use them only to check the guide and reply, and delete them when no longer needed.
Hosting
The site is hosted by Hostinger International Ltd. (61 Lordou Vironos Street, 6023 Larnaca, Cyprus) on servers in the EU. When you open a page, Hostinger's servers process technical data your browser sends, such as your IP address, the page requested, the time and your browser type. This is needed to deliver the page and protect the site from abuse (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Server logs are kept for a short period, and Hostinger processes this data on our behalf under a data processing agreement.
Newsletter (the Durchsage)
If you subscribe, we store your email address and, if you choose one, your profile (Student, Professional or Family). We use them only to send the newsletter. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
We use double opt-in: you are added only after you click the link in the confirmation email. The newsletter is sent through Brevo (Sendinblue SAS, 106 boulevard Haussmann, 75008 Paris, France), which stores the data on servers in the EU on our behalf under a data processing agreement. Brevo records when you subscribe and confirm, and whether emails are opened, to prove consent and keep the list healthy.
You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email, or by emailing us. We then delete your address from the list.
If you email us, we use your address and message only to reply. We do not share them or use them for marketing, and we delete them when they are no longer needed.

Our guides link to official and commercial websites. Once you follow a link, that site's privacy policy applies.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us what data we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. You can also complain to a data protection authority; ours is Der Hessische Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit.
