About us
Who writes LifeAbroadGuide - a young family that moved to Germany in 2019 - and how we keep every guide accurate and up to date.
From India to Germany
We are a young family from India who decided to make Germany our home. Our journey started in 2019, and the rest of our family joined in 2023. Like many of you, we arrived with big plans, a few suitcases and a mountain of paperwork.
Today we are navigating life in Germany not just as newcomers but as parents raising our children here.
Why we write these guides
Moving countries is one of the hardest things you will do. Between the Anmeldung, the blocked account and the language, it is easy to feel lost.
We write the guides we wish we had: clear, step by step, and in the order you will need them. They are for anyone moving to Germany, whichever country you are coming from. Where a rule depends on your nationality, such as the APS certificate or visa-free entry, we say so. Where a guide describes something we did ourselves, such as applying for Elterngeld in Hesse, we say so.
How we keep them accurate
Rules in Germany change every January and often again mid-year. Every guide shows the date it was last updated, and we link to the official source for each figure so you can check it yourself.
We are not lawyers or tax advisers, and we will sometimes get things wrong. If you spot something out of date, email us and we will fix it.
